Benefits of the USGIF Partnership

We recently announced a new partnership with USGIF to provide accredited universities with licenses to geospatial desktop and Smart M.App products. Not only does this partnership enable students to conduct research using industry-leading software, it also presents additional opportunities. Learn all of the ways academia can benefit from the USGIF partnership.

Student M.Appathon

Hexagon Geospatial will sponsor a student M.Appathon competition at the GEOINT 2018 Symposium April 22-25 in Tampa, FL. M.Appathon competitions, held at the past two HxGN LIVE conferences as well as at other events around the world, give you hands-on experience working with the Smart M.App platform. Take advantage of access to our subject-matter experts who can answer your questions along the way to creating your own Smart M.App. We are excited to hold this competition at the world’s largest gathering of intelligence professionals.

New Additions to the Education Program

Hexagon Geospatial’s education program now includes our flagship motion video product as well as development toolkits for other desktop and cloud-based software. The USGIF partnership has initiated some welcomed additions to the company’s Hexagon Geospatial U Program. The Desktop Educational Program now includes GeoMedia Motion Video Analyst Professional. Use video as a source of intelligence by fusing it with geospatial data such as map features, imagery, and annotations to prevent “tunnel vision” by instead providing context and therefore greater insights into the intelligence analysis workflow.

In addition, the Smart M.Apps for EDU Program includes eight apps and now includes the desktop product development toolkits (SDKs/APIs). It also includes access to parts of the Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network, making it easy for users to customize and extend commercial software.

New Opportunities for Collaboration

Each university that is issued free licenses will collaborate with Hexagon Geospatial, such as by updating curriculum or by creating a Smart M.App. We first introduced Hexagon Smart M.Apps by hosting IGNITE, a worldwide competition for entrepreneurs to design, build, and sell their own innovative Smart M.Apps. Three of the 19 finalists were from academia! We are excited to see the results of Hexagon Geospatial technology in action within the USGIF-accredited universities, and benefits to the GEOINT community that their ideas provide.

Empowering Academia

USGIF’s university accreditation program grows stronger by incorporating Hexagon Geospatial software, translating to better prepared GEOINT-certified graduates entering the workforce. USGIF’s accreditation program was established in 2005 to encourage higher education institutions to develop academic certifications preparing students to advance the geospatial intelligence field. Certification graduates meet the requirements for professionals set forth by the USGIF.

“We are excited about this partnership with Hexagon Geospatial to collaboratively issue license grants to the faculty and students of USGIF Accredited Institutions,” said Dr. Camelia Kantor, Director of Academic Programs at USGIF. “This partnership enables faculty and students to conduct research using industry-leading software, encouraging innovation while preserving industry standards.”

“As a company with roots in universities across the world, Hexagon Geospatial has always valued students and academia as an investment in the future,” said Jason Sims, Chief Channel & Marketing Officer for Hexagon Geospatial. “This is why we are so happy to announce our partnership with USGIF, providing access to our industry-leading software and platforms. We look forward to seeing the way instructors, researchers, and students influence how location information will be used to innovate and shape smart change.”
