Join the Hexagon Geospatial Community

One of the most valuable resources of any software company is the combined knowledge of their user base. How do we make it easy for you to gain, exchange, and share knowledge with other Hexagon Geospatial product users? Pay a visit to the Hexagon Geospatial Community. Not to mention there’s free eTraining too!

Get the inside scoop in this Q&A with Thomas Anzinger, Hexagon Geospatial Community Manager.

Q: What is the Hexagon Geospatial Community?
A: It’s a one-stop shop for all technical questions regarding our products. This includes support, configuration, development, and training tutorials.

Q: What are the components of the Community?
A: There are several aspects all gathered in one place. It will host discussions in all our support and developer forums; Knowledge & Support including product-specific content like tutorials, Q&A, release notes; the Developer Network which will house developer-specific content; and last but not least, eTraining.HG Community

Q: Why should someone join the Community?
A: In general, all technical information around our products can be found in one place. It allows users to get in direct contact with experts around the globe and Hexagon Geospatial employees. It’s also a chance for users to demonstrate their expertise on a topic and help others, as well as find the help that they might need. Plus, it’s available 24/7!

Q: Who can join the Community?
A: Everyone, it’s free. There are membership levels that give access to deeper depth of information.

Q: Can you explain the difference between Spatial Models and Spatial Recipes?
A: No problem. Spatial Recipes are part of the Community content. They are Spatial Models used with Hexagon Smart M.Apps to provide an on-demand, near real-time geoprocessing of input data provided by the user.

Q: How often is content updated on the Community?
A: Constantly. Most likely on a daily or weekly base. In addition to our planned content for eTraining, release notes, etc., we will create new articles whenever we become aware of the need.

Q: Can you explain the different levels of membership?
A: Most of the content  in the Community—such as eTraining—is publicly available and requires no registration. To participate in discussions, comment on articles and download content, a free registration is required. Registered users also get access to even more discussions and eTraining.

Q: Will you tell us about the Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network?
A: Beginning April 4, 2016 we will offer even more substantial subscription levels, which provide access to additional Hexagon Geospatial content. One of these offerings is the Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network (HGDN) Subscription, which will give you access to the developer-focused areas. It gives you the following benefits:

  • Single user subscription
  • M.App Studio access
  • Selected Power Portfolio product licenses
  • Selected Power Portfolio SDKs/Toolkits
  • Access to the development ticket portal
  • Access to HGDN-specific areas in the Hexagon Geospatial Tech Community
  • Access to Shared Samples source code

Q: So is there a difference between the Community and the Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network?
A: Yes. The HGDN resides within the Community. The Community is comprised of many publicly-available areas, such a forums and eTraining. The HGDN provides access to an additional layer of content, a deeper layer with more technical content, SDKs, and sample source code.

Q:Why should someone subscribe to the Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network?
A: With a Hexagon Geospatial Developer Network Subscription, you get broad access to all Hexagon Geospatial products for development use in one place. You will also get access to powerful toolkits—including current published APIs and SDKs, and access to in-depth resources—such as tutorials, collaborative samples and web-based training. An HGDN Subscription also allows you to contact the development teams for help with complex project requirements. With this subscription, users can learn anytime though eTraining models, gain access to the comprehensive developer community and support forum, and be eligibile for technology and product previews. Users with this subscription are able to meet the global community to gain hands-on experience and sharpen their skills.
