Intergraph’s North American Transportation Summit 2015 Recap

0

Each year we invite our customers to join us in Huntsville, Alabama, for the North American Transportation Summit. It’s an event where we highlight our customer success stories, look at their innovative approaches to using our solutions, and listen to their needs for solving some of our industry’s most complicated technology challenges. Every year our attendee list grows leaps and bounds with this year’s Summit being our largest turnout to date.

Bad weather can thwart even the best laid plans. During this year’s Summit, Huntsville received a February record of eight inches of snow – but that didn’t slow us down. Actually it was nice having our customers and transportation team snowed in together, as many great conversations and ideas were shared.

The theme of this year’s Summit was visualization. Throughout our customer and thought leaderships sessions, we discussed enhancing asset management and visualization with 3D LiDAR, practical tools for visualizing highway infrastructure, using GIS data analytics, and establishing best practices for enterprise LRS.

There were many other great topics being discussed. The Tennessee Department of Transportation previewed new functionality available in their E-TRIMS roadway information management application and how it’s providing users with industry leading visualization tools. The City of Baton Rouge shared its data collaboration journey with multiple city departments and agencies within the East Baton Rouge Parish, and other parishes in the surrounding areas. The Mississippi Department of Transportation shared how they’re locating projects and meeting new FMIS requirements via the MDOT Project Location Tool app.

An annual highlight of the Summit is our Transportation Roundtable. This year’s Roundtable included six esteemed panelists with diverse backgrounds to help lead and moderate candid discussions focused on current industry challenges and how new technology can help meet and overcome these significant challenges we all face. This year’s Roundtable topics focused on six key areas including:

  • GIS and CAD integration
  • LiDAR and 3D visualization
  • Cloud computing
  • Providing safer transportation infrastructure
  • Data mining and analysis
  • Data collaboration integration with other agencies

Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more in-depth content on the Transportation Roundtable topics as well as the other sessions presented at this year’s Summit. Stay tuned because we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the 2016 North American Transportation Summit.
